This is a Christian formation program for children aged 3 to 12 years.
Since 2009, Holy Family Parish offers two levels of the program (ages 3-6 and ages 6-9).
Developed by Sofia Cavalletti, an Italian Hebrew scripture scholar, building on the work and methods of Maria Montessori, the program helps the children become more aware of their relationship with “Jesus, The Good Shepherd” and to continue to fall in love with Him, while building relationships with other children.
The program is grounded in scripture and the liturgy. Age-appropriate themes from the Bible and liturgy come to life as the children use hands-on materials to internalize and ponder the great mysteries of our faith in a specially-prepared sacred space called the atrium.
“There is nothing of the academic classroom about the atrium; it is not a place for religious instruction but religious life.” (Sofia Cavalletti, Religious Potential of the Child, p. 56)
"If we want to help the child draw nearer to God, we should, with patience and courage, seek to go always closer to the vital nucleus of things. This requires study and prayer. The child will be our teacher if we know how to observe children." Sofia Cavalletti
